The Seasons of Mothering and Motherhood

A spiral movement of becoming

The Seasons of Motherhood and Mothering are like a spiral 🌀.

You are continually evolving, coming undone and then back together in new transformations. It is a journey with the self through nature, strengthening your relationships with baby, family, and community.

The seasons of motherhood and mothering invite courage, acceptance, and compassion, as you ride the waves and navigate the pathways to who you are becoming and how life is opening up and unfolding for you.

The seasons of motherhood and mothering are both about what is happening inside you and what is happening in the life of your little one. You grow and evolve alongside them, in a similar way that you do with your partner and community. There is a weaving together of experiences, actions and reactions, and personal expansion. The force of nature is ever present.

Noticing the seasons of your own motherhood journey can be helpful when life feels on repeat. Naturally you will find yourself in the same place more than once. When you choose to approach the familiar with compassion, courage, and acceptance rather than resistance you provide yourself with some relief. Your presence with what is, releases judgement or stubbornness, and opens you up to growth - preparing you for the next time you find yourself here.

In the natural world, there are four seasons (depending on where you live you may only experience a few of these): Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter. Every year the earth cycles through these seasons. Every year they are slightly or dramatically different than the last. They bring new grow, brilliant blossoming, shedding and releasing, death and hibernation. We too are nature and move through similar seasons, each same but different.

I hope this idea of the seasons of motherhood and mothering feels supportive. If you want to explore themes like this further, join me each month at The Bridge in Kingston, NY for my Remember You mamas circle.
